  • The Craft Behind Prong Settings for Diamonds, Gemstones, & Precious Stones

The Craft Behind Prong Settings for Diamonds, Gemstones, & Precious Stones

Embarking on the journey of crafting exquisite jewelry involves delving into the intricacies of setting precious stones—a pivotal aspect in both enhancing their beauty and ensuring longevity. At Lambert Pawn, we recognize the paramount importance of this craftsmanship, particularly when dealing with diamonds, gemstones, and other precious stones. In this comprehensive exploration, we delve into the art of setting stones with prongs, scrutinizing how the choice of prongs varies based on the type of stone. Moreover, we shine a light on Lambert Pawn’s meticulous approach to evaluating and pawning diamond jewelry, integrating the fundamental principles of the 4 Cs to ensure an all-encompassing understanding of their quality.

    Prong Settings

Prong Settings: A Work of Art

Prong settings are one of the most popular and versatile techniques employed to secure diamonds, gemstones, and precious stones in jewelry. These miniature metal claws or prongs securely cradle the stone, allowing optimal exposure of the stone’s facets to light, thus enhancing its brilliance.

The Choice of Prongs: Tailored to the Stone

Recognizing the diversity in gemstones and diamonds, a high end piece of jewelry customizes prong settings to align seamlessly with the characteristics of each unique stone.

    1. Diamonds: The Classic Brilliance

Diamonds, with their unparalleled brilliance, are often showcased using the traditional four-prong setting. This timeless design strikes a delicate balance between highlighting the diamond’s radiance and providing ample security. Nevertheless, variations such as the six-prong setting are also embraced, offering an additional layer of stability.

    1. Colored Gemstones: Safeguarding the Vividness

Colored gemstones, with their captivating hues, require a secure setting that complements and protects their vibrancy. The bezel setting, where a metal rim encircles the entire stone, emerges as a popular choice. This not only provides a protective shield for the edges, but also intensifies the color saturation of the gem.

    1. Delicate Stones: Tension Settings for Elegance

For delicate stones like opals and pearls, tension settings come into play. In this method, the stone is delicately cradled by the tension of the metal band, creating an elegant and modern appearance, while ensuring minimal interference with the stone’s innate beauty.

Lambert Pawn’s Approach: Meticulous Evaluation of Settings & Understanding GIA Certifications

When it comes to purchasing or pawning diamond jewelry, Lambert Pawn places utmost importance on the integrity of the settings. Our seasoned experts meticulously examine each piece, ensuring that the prongs remain intact, secure, and tailored to the specific type of stone. This meticulous evaluation guarantees that our customers not only receive fair value for their jewelry, but also retain the structural integrity of each piece.

The pawn brokers know and understand GIA certified diamonds and jewelry, and the 4Cs. If you have any questions, stop in and talk with them. They are happy to answer questions.

The 4 Cs: A Crucial Factor in Diamond Evaluation

In the realm of diamonds, the 4 Cs—Carat, Cut, Color, and Clarity—serve as pillars in determining their quality and value. Lambert Pawn adopts a comprehensive approach to assess these factors, understanding their interplay in creating a holistic understanding of each diamond’s unique characteristics.

    Carat: The Weight of Elegance

Carat, measuring the weight of a diamond, is a fundamental factor considered by Lambert Pawn when evaluating diamonds. The carat weight is carefully examined in conjunction with other elements to determine the value of the diamond.

    Cut: Unleashing Brilliance

The cut of a diamond, referring to how well it has been shaped and faceted, is a critical consideration. Lambert Pawn acknowledges the significance of an expertly cut diamond in maximizing its brilliance and allure.

    Color: The Spectrum of Rarity

Color, ranging from colorless to light yellow or brown, is a defining characteristic in diamond evaluation. Lambert Pawn meticulously evaluates diamonds based on their color, recognizing the subtle variations that can significantly impact their rarity and value.

    Clarity: Nature’s Signature

Clarity assesses the presence of internal and external flaws, known as inclusions and blemishes. Lambert Pawn conducts a thorough examination to determine the clarity of diamonds, understanding that a flawless diamond is a rare and valuable find.

What About Lab Grown Diamonds Are They Worth It?

In recent years, lab-created diamonds have been making waves in the jewelry industry, sparking a conversation about their worth and appeal. These man-made gems, also known as lab-grown or synthetic diamonds, are created using advanced technological processes that replicate the conditions under which natural diamonds form within the Earth. As consumers become increasingly aware of ethical and environmental concerns, lab diamonds are gaining traction for several compelling reasons.

One of the primary advantages of lab diamonds is their ethical sourcing. Traditional diamond mining has been associated with environmental degradation, unethical labor practices, and sometimes funding conflict zones. In contrast, lab diamonds are produced in controlled environments, eliminating ethical concerns associated with traditional diamond extraction.

Beyond ethical considerations, lab diamonds often come with a more budget-friendly price tag. The cost of mining and transporting natural diamonds contributes significantly to their market value. Lab-created diamonds, produced in a controlled environment, generally incur lower production costs, making them a more cost-effective option for consumers without compromising on visual appeal or quality.

Moreover, lab diamonds boast an identical physical and chemical composition to their natural counterparts. This means they exhibit the same brilliance, fire, and durability. With advances in technology, it has become increasingly challenging to distinguish between natural and lab diamonds without specialized equipment. This parity in quality has led many consumers to view lab diamonds as a worthy alternative, especially considering their positive impact on both the environment and the wallet.

Lab diamonds are undeniably worth considering for those seeking a stunning, ethical, and budget-conscious option. The shift towards lab-created diamonds reflects a growing awareness within the jewelry industry and among consumers about the importance of sustainable and responsible practices. As technology continues to advance, the allure of these diamonds is likely to persist, offering a shining example of how innovation can harmonize with tradition in fine jewelry.

Crafting Wearable Dreams: The Artistry and Purpose of Jewelry Designers’ Collections

Jewelry, often referred to as wearable art, has captivated humanity for centuries. From dazzling gemstones to intricate metalwork, jewelry designers are true artisans who transform raw materials into exquisite masterpieces. What sets them apart is not just their craftsmanship, but their ability to create meaningful collections that resonate with individuals on a personal level. In this blog, we explore the world of jewelry designers and why they craft these remarkable collections.

You will also learn that Lamber Pawn in Whittier, CA has collector jewelry. They buy and sell and pawn gold and silver jewelry, and have even purchased black diamonds designer jewelry where the designer brand was worth more than the black diamond in the pawn shop.

    The Visionaries of Adornmen

Jewelry designers are the visionaries of the adornment world. They possess a unique blend of creativity, technical skill, and deep appreciation for beauty. Each designer brings their perspective and cultural influences to their work, resulting in various styles that cater to diverse tastes.

    Collections: A Window into Creativity

One of the most captivating aspects of jewelry designers is their ability to create collections. A collection is more than just a series of individual pieces. It tells a story, conveys emotions, and showcases the designer’s evolution. Through these collections, designers communicate their artistic journey, from initial inspiration to the final creation.

Collections serve as a medium through which designers experiment with new materials, techniques, and design concepts. They challenge themselves to innovate, pushing the boundaries of traditional jewelry design. As a result, each collection is a testament to their growth as artists and their commitment to refining their craft.

    Inspiration: The Spark of Creativity

The inspiration behind jewelry collections can stem from many sources. Nature’s beauty, cultural heritage, historical periods, personal experiences, and even emotions can serve as catalysts for creativity. For instance, a designer might create a collection inspired by the intricate patterns of a peacock’s feathers or the elegance of a bygone era.

Collections also allow designers to explore and express their values. Some designers focus on sustainable practices and use ethically sourced materials, creating collections that align with their commitment to environmental consciousness. Others use their jewelry to make social or political statements, turning their pieces into a canvas for advocating change.

    Creating a Cohesive Aesthetic

Designing a collection goes beyond creating individual pieces that look good together; it involves weaving a narrative that ties the pieces together cohesively. Designers carefully select elements like color palettes, motifs, and materials to ensure that the collection resonates as a unified whole.

    The Role of Personal Connection

Jewelry is inherently personal. It carries emotions, memories, and symbolism for both the creator and the wearer. Designers understand this intimate relationship and strive to infuse their collections with elements that resonate deeply with individuals. This personal connection elevates the value of the jewelry beyond its aesthetic appeal, making it a cherished and treasured possession.

    The Evolution of Designer-Consumer Interaction

The relationship between jewelry designers and consumers has evolved significantly. In the past, the artist’s work was often distant from the consumer, but today’s digital era has brought designers closer to their audience. Social media platforms, online marketplaces, and virtual showcases allow designers to share their creative process, engage with fans, and receive instant feedback. This interaction not only enhances the appreciation of the craft, but also enables designers to tailor their collections to meet evolving preferences.

  • Bold Beauty: Black Diamonds vs. White Diamonds – A Stunning Contrast!

Bold Beauty: Black Diamonds vs. White Diamonds – A Stunning Contrast!

The Difference Between Natural Black Diamonds and a Lab Created Ones

    Natural Black Diamonds

A black diamond, also known as a “carbonado,” is a unique type of diamond that differs in appearance and composition from traditional white or colorless diamonds. Their dark black or dark gray color characterizes black diamonds, which is due to numerous microscopic black or dark inclusions within the diamond’s structure. These inclusions scatter light, giving black diamonds their distinctive opaque appearance.

Unlike white diamonds, which are composed of pure carbon, black diamonds are believed to have originated from a different process. They are thought to have formed from impact events, such as meteorite strikes, that subjected the carbon-containing material to immense heat and pressure, resulting in the unique composition and appearance of black diamonds.

Black diamonds are relatively rare and typically found in only a few locations around the world, including Brazil and Central Africa. They have gained popularity in recent years as unique and fashionable choices for jewelry, including rings, earrings, and pendants, due to their distinctive appearance and unconventional appeal. Black diamonds are also sometimes used in industrial applications due to their hardness and durability.

    Lab Created Black Diamonds

Artificially made black diamonds, also known as “treated” or “enhanced” black diamonds, are diamonds subjected to various treatments or enhancements to alter their color and appearance. These treatments are done using high-pressure, high-temperature (HPHT) processes or through irradiation techniques.

HPHT-treated black diamonds are created by subjecting natural white or light-colored diamonds to intense heat and pressure, which causes the diamond to absorb and trap graphite or other dark inclusions, resulting in a black or dark gray color. This process mimics the natural formation of black diamonds believed to have formed from impact events.

Irradiation is another method used to create black diamonds artificially. Diamonds are exposed to high-energy radiation, such as electron beams or neutron bombardment, which alters their crystal lattice structure and can lead to a black color.

It’s important to note that treated black diamonds are different from natural black diamonds in terms of their value and rarity. Natural black diamonds are extremely rare and valuable, while treated black diamonds are generally less valuable due to their altered or enhanced nature. Treated black diamonds should always be disclosed as such when sold or used in jewelry to ensure transparency and accuracy in the market.

Why did the Diamond Industry Start Creating Black Diamonds?

The diamond industry started creating black diamonds through artificial treatments or enhancements, primarily to meet the growing demand for black diamond jewelry in the market. Black diamonds have gained popularity in recent years due to their unique and unconventional appearance, making them sought after for use in jewelry such as rings, earrings, and pendants.

Natural black diamonds are extremely rare and are found in limited quantities in only a few locations around the world, which makes them expensive and hard to obtain. As a result, the diamond industry turned to artificial treatments and enhancements to create black diamonds that could be more readily available and affordable for consumers.

Artificially created black diamonds also offer more versatility in terms of shape, size, and consistency in color compared to natural black diamonds, which can vary greatly in these characteristics. This makes treated black diamonds more suitable for jewelry manufacturing and design purposes.

Additionally, advances in technology and diamond treatment techniques have enabled the creation of black diamonds with high quality and desirable characteristics, further driving the demand for these unique gems in the jewelry market.

It’s important to note that treated black diamonds should be disclosed as such when sold or used in jewelry to ensure transparency and ethical business practices in the diamond industry. Consumers should always ask for proper documentation and certifications from reputable sources when purchasing black diamonds, to ensure they are accurately represented and ethically sourced gemstones.

    Prong Settings

Do Lab Created Black Diamonds hold the same value as White Diamonds?

Lab-created black diamonds do not hold the same value as natural white diamonds. Natural white diamonds are formed deep within the Earth’s crust over millions of years through natural geological processes, and are considered rare and precious gemstones. Their value is typically determined by the “Four Cs“: carat weight, cut, color, and clarity, with natural white diamonds of higher carat weight, excellent cut, and minimal color and clarity characteristics commanding higher prices.

On the other hand, lab-created black diamonds are artificially created in controlled laboratory environments using high-pressure, high-temperature (HPHT) processes or irradiation techniques to alter the color of natural or synthetic diamonds. These treated or enhanced black diamonds are more affordable compared to natural white diamonds, as they are not as rare or precious. The value of lab-created black diamonds is typically based on the cost of production, which is generally lower than the cost of mining and processing natural diamonds.

It’s important to note that the value of lab-created black diamonds, like all diamonds, may vary depending on factors such as size, shape, color, and clarity. However, lab-created black diamonds are more affordable than natural white diamonds, and do not hold the same intrinsic or investment value.

What is a Diamond Grading Report?

A diamond grading report, also known as a diamond certificate or diamond dossier, is a document issued by a gemological laboratory that provides an expert evaluation and detailed information about the quality and characteristics of a diamond. It is a vital tool for assessing the value and quality of a diamond, as it provides an independent, unbiased, and professional assessment of the diamond’s attributes.

A typical diamond grading report includes information such as:

    1. Carat Weight: The weight of the diamond, usually expressed in carats, which is a unit of measurement for gemstones.

    2. Cut: The quality of the diamond’s cut, including its proportions, symmetry, and polish, which affects the diamond’s ability to reflect light and create brilliance.

    3. Color: The presence of any color in the diamond, ranging from colorless (graded as D) to faint or light yellow or brown (graded as Z), with grades based on a standardized scale.

    4. Clarity: The presence of any internal or external characteristics, known as inclusions and blemishes, respectively, and their impact on the diamond’s clarity, graded on a scale from Flawless (FL) to Included (I1, I2, I3).

    5. Shape and Measurements: The diamond’s shape, such as round, princess, or emerald, and its measurements, including diameter, depth, and table percentage.

    6. Fluorescence: The diamond’s reaction to ultraviolet light, which may cause the diamond to emit a visible glow, graded on a scale from None to Very Strong.

    7. Additional Information: Some grading reports may also include additional information, such as the diamond’s proportions, symmetry, and polish, as well as any other unique characteristics or features.

Reputable gemological laboratories issue diamond grading reports, such as the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), the American Gem Society (AGS), and the International Gemological Institute (IGI), among others. These reports serve as a valuable tool for consumers, jewelers, and insurers to accurately assess the quality and value of a diamond, and can be used for buying, selling, insuring, and appraising diamonds.

    Gold and Diamond Ring

Do All Diamond Buyers Want a Diamond Grading Report When Selling Pre-owned Diamonds and Engagement Rings?

While it may vary depending on the specific circumstances and preferences of the diamond buyer, not all buyers may require a diamond grading report when purchasing pre-owned diamonds or engagement rings.

Some buyers may focus more on other factors, such as the overall design, style, craftsmanship, and brand of the jewelry, rather than the specific details of the diamond’s grading report.

However, many reputable and knowledgeable diamond buyers may request a diamond grading report as part of their due diligence process when evaluating pre-owned diamonds or engagement rings. A diamond grading report provides important information about the quality and characteristics of the diamond, helping the buyer assess its value and authenticity.

Having a diamond grading report can also add credibility and transparency to the selling process, as it provides an independent and professional assessment of the diamond’s attributes. It can help establish trust between the buyer and the seller, and provide confidence to both parties that the transaction is based on accurate and reliable information.

Furthermore, if you are selling a diamond or engagement ring with a diamond grading report from a reputable gemological laboratory, it can potentially command a higher price or attract more interest from buyers who value the additional information and assurance provided by the grading report.

It’s important to note that not all diamond grading reports are created equal, and the reputation and credibility of the gemological laboratory that issued the report can greatly impact its value and reliability.

Buyers may have their own preferences or requirements for the type of diamond grading report they accept. Therefore, it’s advisable to provide a diamond grading report from a reputable and recognized gemological laboratory to maximize the likelihood of meeting buyer expectations and achieving a fair transaction.

Can You Get a Quality Diamond from A Pawn Shop When You are Buying Diamonds?

Yes, it is possible to find quality diamonds at a pawn shop when buying diamonds. Pawn shops can be a source of pre-owned diamonds that are often sold at a discounted price compared to buying new diamonds from a traditional jewelry store. However, there are important factors to consider when purchasing diamonds from a pawn shop to ensure that you are getting a quality diamond.

    1. Authenticity: It’s crucial to verify the authenticity of the diamond you are buying from a pawn shop. Requesting a diamond grading report from a reputable gemological laboratory can help confirm the diamond’s authenticity and provide information about its quality and characteristics.

    2. Quality: Carefully assess the quality of the diamond based on the 4 Cs – carat weight, cut, color, and clarity. Consider the diamond’s appearance, brilliance, and any visible inclusions or blemishes. A diamond grading report can provide valuable information about these attributes.

    3. Reputation of the Pawn Shop: Choose a reputable and established pawn shop with a history of dealing in diamonds and gemstones. Look for customer reviews, ratings, and feedback to gauge the credibility and reliability of the pawn shop.

    4. Return Policy and Warranty: Inquire about the pawn shop’s return policy and warranty for diamonds. A reputable pawn shop may offer a reasonable return policy and provide a warranty or guarantee for the diamonds they sell, ensuring that you are satisfied with your purchase.

    5. Price: Compare the price of the diamond at the pawn shop with market prices for similar diamonds of comparable quality. Consider factors such as the diamond’s condition, certification, and market demand when assessing the price.

    6. Professional Appraisal: Consider getting a professional appraisal from a certified gemologist or independent appraiser to ensure you are getting a fair deal and a quality diamond.

It’s important to exercise caution and do your due diligence when buying diamonds from a pawn shop, just as you would when purchasing from any other source. Verifying the authenticity, quality, reputation of the pawn shop, return policy, and price are essential steps to ensure that you are getting a quality diamond that meets your expectations.

  • Start Looking At Pawn Shop Rings – It May Be Time To Buy

Start Looking At Pawn Shop Rings – It May Be Time To Buy

Start Looking At Pawn Shop Rings – It May Be Time To Buy

    Gold Price is Down

With gold prices down by 2%, it may be the perfect time to buy gold and silver, gold engagement rings, wedding ring, estate jewelry, diamond rings, and gemstones set in a precious metal, or any of the other great deals you can find at a pawn shop to add to your collection of gold and silver.

Gold prices dropped Monday, June 13th, due to a surging dollar index. This was based on predictions of the Federal Reserve raising interest rates by September. Investors quickly lost the appeal for gold, silver, and other precious metals and the spot price fell.

Gold spot fell to $1,832.76, making it an excellent time to buy gold and silver jewelry, bars, and coins to sit on for future sales. According to JP Morgan, gold has been in a tug a war between its pricing drivers, with firm inflation being countered by bets for aggressive policy responses.

Buy Low Sell High = Money

As consumers look to purchase gold and silver, purchases made when the spot price is down makes good sense. Sitting on gold is an option if you aren’t in a hurry and you can watch the spot price to know when to liquidate. Buy low, sell high, is a rule of thumb.

Consumers of the precious metals available today can determine what they have to spend on precious metals with the knowledge that they may have to sit on the purchase for some time before the market comes back up, and they can then take advantage of making a deal to sell their precious metals.

The cost of doing business is time and the disadvantage of tying up funds on a good deal you got on gold or silver without knowing when you can get a return on your investment.

    Large Inventories

Pawn shops have extensive selections of wedding sets, engagement rings, princess-cut diamond rings set in gold, silver, silver jewelry, pendants to mark an engagement date, and loose diamonds, all at a reasonable price.

Most jewelry stores sell fine jewelry to a buyer with a huge mark up. It is a known fact that purchasing from jewelry stores expensive. The cost supports the jewelry store’s advertising, marketing, and profit margins.

Pawn shops buy a diamond ring from a customer who decides they would like a new jewelry piece, so the customer decides to liquidate their current ring. Sometimes pawn shops buy a gold ring outright because the customer needs quick cash to make a payment or meet unexpected emergencies.

Pawn shops take in fine jewelry, gold, silver, and other items like electronics, musical equipment, name-brand sneakers, name brand tools and work with their customers to get the money they need.

If a customer has an engagement ring that is made of diamonds and gold, but  a breakup happened, the customer might decide selling the ring is the best recourse. You on the hunt for gold at a lower spot price mightbe able to purchase that engagement ring and add it to your pile of gold to hold onto until gold spot prices rebound.

    Top Dollar

Pawn shops pay top dollar after appraising a valuable piece of fine jewelry, and payment is made before the customer leaves the store. This creates an ideal solution for someone needing money fast and a better deal for you looking to buy pre-owned gold rings, gold necklaces, gold bracelets, and other high-end gold jewelry for the best value.

    Gold Jewelry

Gold is a durable precious metal that does not tarnish, rust, or corrode. Pure gold (24k) is malleable, so it is easy to shape, bend, and craft when heated.

Gold purity is measured in karates. The word carob is derived from the term karates, meaning the seeds used in ancient times to measure the weight of gold.

Pure gold is usually mixed with other metals and alloys to give the precious metal strength and temper the bright yellow to a soft golden hue. The more metals are mixed with pure gold, the lower the karats.

Most jewelry is made from 14k and 18k gold.

    Gold and Diamond Ring

    14k Gold

14k gold is 58.3% pure gold and contains parts of different metals like silver, palladium, bronze, copper, zinc, and nickel. 14k white gold has a slightly different make-up of alloys and is coated in a protective rhodium plating. Rhodium is a shiny white metal that looks like platinum. The rhodium gives scratch protection and gives the jewelry piece a lustrous shine. 14k gold is an excellent choice for jewelry when paired with diamonds and gemstones like emeralds, sapphires, and rubies.

    18k gold

    18k Gold

18k Gold is 75% pure gold and 25% other alloys like silver and copper. 18k gold is not as durable as 14k gold because it is softer. 18k gold is a good choice for an engagement ring, wedding ring, a gold pendant, or gold earrings. 18k gold complements gemstones with green, red, and blue colors and sets a luxurious background for sparkling diamonds.

What Shop is Best When Shopping for Gold

Jewelry stores have diamond experts who can tell you about diamonds, fine jewelry, and gold. The downside is jewelry stores have huge markups on their jewelry, making the price higher than what you can find in an alternative shopping situation.

Online shops, eBay, and the Marketplace are places to look for and purchase gently used gold jewelry. One of the drawbacks is you can’t be guaranteed that what you are buying is genuine and authentic. Sometimes gold plated jewelry appears to be gold, but it is mainly made from an alloy. Making a purchase even if the price is reasonable is no longer a sweet deal when you discover that what you purchased is fake.

Pawn shops are in the business of buying, selling, and writing pawn loans using precious metals, engagement rings, wedding rings, and other fine jewelry as collateral. Pawn shops offer free appraisals, and most stores test the items that come in to ensure that what they are buying or loaning against is real. Pawn shops wouldn’t stay in business long if they wrote loans against or bought something fake.

  • Diamonds are an April Birthday’s Best Friend

Diamonds are an April Birthday’s Best Friend

As April draws to a close, let’s shine a light on perhaps the most famous of all the monthly birthstones: the diamond. Most of us have or will be in the market to purchase a diamond at some point in our lives. The process of diamond shopping can feel overwhelming at first, but with some basic knowledge you can feel confident in the price and quality of the diamond you choose.

    4 Cs of Diamond Shopping

Chances are within minutes of walking into a jeweler to peruse their diamond selection, you will begin talking about the 4 Cs (Cut, Color, Clarity, & Carat) with the salesperson. In order to ask the best questions and ultimately make the best purchase for you, make sure you understand the 4 Cs before you walk into a jeweler, pawnshop, or other diamond seller.

The 4Cs of Buying a Diamond

    Cut

The most important characteristic of a diamond is its cut; the cut of a diamond is not to be confused with the diamond’s shape (round, emerald, princess, cushion, pear, etc.).  When the cut of a diamond is discussed, you are actually speaking about the proportions to which the diamond is cut to. A well-cut diamond will allow the maximum amount of light to pass through the stone, creating all of its brilliancy.

Simply put: the better cut a diamond is, the more it will sparkle.

    Color

Discussing the color of a diamond is a bit deceiving to novices as it is the lack of color in a diamond that is considered highest quality. The color of a diamond is graded on a scale of colorless to light yellow (D to Z). Diamonds that are colorless, meaning they rate in the D – F range, are the highest quality as their lack of color allows the most amount of light to pass through the stone. As we know from discussing the cut of the diamond, the more light that passes through the stone, the more it sparkles.

    Clarity

The clarity of a diamond speaks to its flaws, commonly referred to as “inclusions”. Clarity is rated anywhere from flawless to imperfect (inclusions visible to the eye). Where a diamond rates on this scale depends on the number of inclusions and where they are located. Inclusions found on the surface of the stone are rated better than if the inclusions were found on the interior of the stone. You may have guessed why the number of inclusions found in a diamond is significance to its value…inclusions create barriers for light to pass through the stone. If a stone has no inclusions then light is able to pass straight through the stone, creating that much sought after sparkle.

    Carat

The weight of a diamond is measured in carats; each carat is made of 100 points. For example, if you have a diamond that weighs 75 points, your diamond is .75 carats. Many believe that the bigger the diamond, the better, but that is not always the case. Two diamonds of the same weight can vary greatly in price depending on the cut, color, and clarity of the diamonds. For example, if you have two 1 carat diamonds and the first diamond has flawless clarity and is colorless, but the second diamond has imperfect clarity and is light yellow in color, the second diamond will have a much lower value than the first.

When it comes to knowing the value of a diamond, it’s all about the things that impact the sparkle! Knowing how the 4 Cs impact the sparkle of a diamond will help you ensure you are buying the right diamond for your budget and your taste.
